How it all began….
Griffin Salve began in 2009 with the birth of our second daughter—number two of what would eventually become seven children!
As an herbalist, I was fascinated by natural wellness and traditional plant-based remedies. I’ve always been a DIY kind of person, and I wanted as many of the products my family used as possible to be made with my own hands. One of those products would eventually become Griffin Salve.
After many late nights, lots of trial and error, and more than a few failed batches, I finally created something special.
At first, I shared a few tins with family and friends. The response was incredible. They loved it and began sharing it with their own friends and families. Before long, people were asking if they could buy more.
So I took Griffin Salve to a local farmers market.
Week after week, customers returned to tell me how much they loved it. They shared stories with friends, neighbors, and family members, and word quickly spread. What began as a small hobby soon became a thriving little business.
Then one unexpected conversation changed everything.
A friend stopped by my booth after getting a new tattoo. Her skin wasn’t responding well to some of the ink colors, and she asked if I had any suggestions. I honestly wasn’t sure, but I told her she could try some Griffin Salve.
About thirty minutes later, she came back to my booth excited to show me the difference.
That moment opened our eyes to a whole new community.
Matt and I began visiting tattoo studios throughout Alabama and neighboring states. We attended conventions, met artists, and built relationships with people who took incredible pride in their craft. We met amazing artists, traveled thousands of miles, and formed friendships that continue to this day. Those years remain some of our favorite memories.
Along the way, customers found countless ways to incorporate Griffin Salve into their daily routines. While many first discovered us through tattoo aftercare, they often returned for other uses and shared their experiences with friends and family. That has always been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey—hearing how people make Griffin Salve a part of their lives.
Today, Griffin Salve remains a true family business.
Every batch is still handcrafted in small quantities. I personally infuse and hand-pour every tin. Our children help label products, fill bottles, shrink-wrap items, and package orders. Every shipment that leaves our door has been touched by our family. Matt has handled customer relationships from the very beginning. His vision, encouragement, and unwavering belief in Griffin Salve helped transform a simple idea into something much bigger than I ever imagined possible.
The past fifteen years have brought challenges, lessons, and blessings. There have been difficult seasons and incredible victories. Through it all, we’ve remained committed to creating the best products we know how to make and serving our customers with integrity.
